Addiction Registered Mental Health Professional - Intake Triage Clinician

Duties (include)

  • Screen, assess and triage referrals from PHO, NGO, families/Whanau, and individual self-referrals
  • Phone triages, initial assessments and Comprehensive Psychiatric/Addiction assessments
  • Facilitate access to treatment within the community teams or re-refer for treatment to Primary Health, NGOs and other agencies
  • Screen and address safety concerns including mental health and addiction risk issues
  • Liaise immediately with CRS, Police, Oranga Tamariki, Domestic Violence shelter provider
  • Respond to inquiries from GPs or others about service provision and general information 
  • Liaise with other health providers, NGOs, PHOs social and government agencies to facilitate care and treatments for tangata whaiora/whanau.
  • Initial Assessment for people with moderate to severe Addiction problems
  • Formulation comprehensive assessments, risk management and treatment/wellness plan
  • Triage service referrals to CMHAS Hutt North and Hutt South teams
  • Provide individual brief AOD counselling


Skills & experience

  • Current Professional registration and practising certificate –Social Worker, Occupational Therapist - Registered with DAPAANZ or equivalent professional body (an advantage)
  • Full Drivers Licence.
  • Experience in working from a strengths perspective.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with people with Coexisting Addiction and Mental health issues to identify goals and actions required
  • Demonstrated competence in communicating with a wide range of people, leading meetings and documenting outcomes and plans.
  • Previous experience of working in the Mental Health and Addiction sector, and evidence of competency in this specialist area is an advantage

The Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) spans three DHBs - Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Capital and Coast DHB’s and includes local, regional, and national services. The local MHAIDS services are provided from multiple sites within the 3DHB sub-region – greater Wellington, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa.
