Allied Health – New Entry to Specialist Practice NESP (Occupational Therapists, Social Workers)

Location: Porirua, Hutt, Wellington

Contract:  Fixed term, 36 hours/week, Monday - Friday

Service: Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service MHAIDS


Mental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) spans three DHBs - Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Capital and Coast, and includes local, regional, and national services. The MHAIDS Learning and Development team organizes and delivers a range of programmes to support workforce capability for all staff, including the AH-NESP programme.

About the role

We have positions available in 2021 for the MHAID Service 3DHB AH-NESP (Allied Health – New Entry to Specialist Practice) programme.

The programme is open to all new graduate social workers and occupational therapists who would like to develop specialist skills in mental health and addictions. Successful applicants (AH-NESPs) will be employed 0.9 FTE for 10 months. During this time, you will work in two different clinical settings, and complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science (Mental Health) at AUT.


Skills & experience

  • New graduate social workers and occupational therapists -registered (or provisionally registered)
  • Registration with appropriate board (NZOTB or SWRB)



  • Permanent Residents or New Zealand Citizens 
  • Able to work and study in 2021
  • A passion for the mental health and addictions field of practice
  • Have a full drivers licence
