Expert Occupational Therapist - Mental Health

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Occupational Therapist with highly specialist knowledge and skills in the area of Inpatient Mental Health Rehabilitation, to take on an integral clinical leadership role and be part of the committed, innovative and creative teams implementing a multi-disciplinary approach for consumers within the Regional Rehabilitation Mental Health Inpatient Services. The role is based within Te Korowai Whāriki, which is part of the Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service. This covers the central region from Tairawhiti on the East Coast across to Wanganui and south to Wellington and Wairarapa.  

In this role you will provide a highly specialised level of care to clients with complex health care needs, as well as providing clinical leadership, by exploring, introducing and supporting innovative practice and quality improvement in psychiatric forensic Occupational Therapy and across the wider multidisciplinary team.  As a senior level clinician you will be responsible for the provision and co-ordination of clinical Occupational Therapy (OT) Services at the Regional Rehabilitation Inpatient Service as well as specific leadership, supervision/mentorship and education to directly reporting staff and other professionals within their own team and/or across disciplines throughout the Regional Rehabilitation Inpatient Service.

  • NZ Registered Occupational Therapist with current annual practicing certificate (essential).
  • Member of Occupational Therapy New Zealand - Professional Association (desirable).
  • Relevant post graduate qualification(s) or working towards this (desirable).
  • Expectation of at least 6 years clinical practice, of which 4 years must be in a relevant specialty / area of practice
  • Demonstrated specialist clinical skills 
  • Demonstrated research and practice development
  • Demonstrated effective clinical leadership
  • Proficiency in using technology within the workplace
