Our Hutt Valley North Community Mental Health and Addictions team, part of the Mental Health, Addictions & Intellectual Disability Service MHAIDS, has a vacancy  for a Clinical Psychologists, Community Mental Health Nurse or Mental Health Social Worker with experience working in the community.  You will have excellent clinical skills, willing to work hard,  be well-organised and keen to be part of a very dedicated group of professionals. You will be working with an experienced team who strive to provide high quality care to consumers family/whānau that may require access to mental health services.


  • Assess, Screen and Triage all referrals to the Community Mental Health and Addiction Services from PHO, NGO, families/Whanau, and individual self-referrals
  • Undertake Comprehensive Addiction and Psychiatric assessments
  • Facilitate access to treatment within the community teams or re-refer for treatment to Primary health, NGOs and other CMHAS  as appropriate
  • Assess, screen and address safety concerns including mental health and addiction risk issues; liaise immediately with CRS, Police, Oranga Tamariki, Domestic Violence shelter providers
  • Respond to inquiries from GPs or others about service provision and general information

Skills & Experience 

  • Current Professional registration and practising certificate - Nurse, Social Worker or Clinical Psychologist
  • Experience working with people experiencing moderate to severe Addiction problems and/or  mental health issues
  • Demonstrated experience working with people to identify goals and actions required to achieve the same.
  • Demonstrated competence in communicating with a wide range of people and documenting outcomes and plans.
  • Addiction or Mental Health Post Graduate certificate
  • Full Drivers Licence
  • Legally eligible to work in New Zealand
